Pro wrestling was far from the first, and of course it's far from the only wrestling out there today either, though many think the pro wrestler is the only one out there. While the roots of the sport called wrestling extend from nearly all walks of life and many centuries ago; today in a violent vulgar flurry of a gladiator style entertainment extravaganza professional wrestling is found.
With the increases of technology this sport acting has become a goldmine for entertainment tycoons. They have found that extending the drama in an arena to the entirety contained between all entranceways draw huge crowds willing to pay a fortune, and of course their hand is out taking it. With huge lightshows, big screens, and mass retransmission they have brought this sport entertainment to the global picture.
All the madness doesn't end at the arena. Every year it spills out more onto society in very visible ways. Professional wrestling is no doubt, part of a number of things in media that are having violent and vulgar effects on society at large. One thing that can put a little more weight on it is that it's ongoing, and consistent. The ongoing soap opera style becomes more intertwined in those viewing it, than a movie or song can.
Many of the events depicted, if carried out in real life would definitely end up in jails, prisons, and death. The sad fact is they actually do. These wrestling related copies in real life show up more and more in our headlines. Whether it's a twelve year old boy killing a six year old girl in Florida specifically linked to the moves of a wrestler, the more subtle increases in domestic violence with court transcripts showing links to professional wrestling, or just injuries (and deaths) in all out brawls; the headlines definitely have increases linkable.
In its early days there was more honor and back then it did have some family value, though with increases that had no doubt added to the profitability of professional wrestling, anymore it's an ongoing extreme that is best kept out of any children's view. Children are young and impressionable, and unlike a movie, long-term ongoing impressions have much more impact on the whole learning process. In schools, teaching against violence, inappropriate activities, and such has become very necessary with the times.
While one thing has changed that has put the picture a bit more in parental controls, is that now professional wrestling matches are often pay-per-view events, which does cut down a little on the repeated violent vulgar entertainment, there is still a lot of exposure to children just the same.
It's time society looks a little further at what is becoming the mainstream of entertainment, as what is on today will effect what we have to leave for our children tomorrow. Is this to be a scene of mass violence, vulgarity, and extreme law breaking, or a better world than what we ourselves have to enjoy?
