People who use exercise alone as a method of losing weight aren't doing things correctly. Aside from exercising, proper diets should be observed. Some choose to use more drastic measures by using weight loss drugs such as Xenical or diet pills. The problem with this solution is that, well, they are drugs.
Some drugs have addictive properties. Mood drugs like uppers and downers have rates higher even that that of cocaine. In fact, mood drugs are the most addictive drugs in the United States. The problem stems from the fact that these drugs are prescribed by physicians. Of course, this isn't really the physicians' fault as there are no better drugs available.
Other drugs have dangerous effects. Drugs are mostly plant based. Plants have properties in them that can be beneficial or harmful or both. If a beneficial property of the plant is used too much, then it becomes addictive, harmful, poisonous and deadly.
Marijuana and opium are good examples of beneficial and harmful plants. Until recently, marijuana has been viewed as a harmful, addictive substance. Further studies persuaded the FDA to list marijuana as a regulated, prescription drug to treat illness. Processed opium produces morphine. Morphine is a muscle relaxant and pain reliever. Too much morphine will relax your muscles so much so that your heart will stop beating. It is also used as a mood drug.
The danger with weight loss drugs lies mainly in the fact that they inhibit hunger. If you're not hungry, you don't eat. If you don't eat, you lose weight. Because you don't eat, you also fail to acquire the essential nutrients that your body requires to function. To compensate, you will have to take in food supplements to bring your nutrient levels up to normal. However, eating is still the best method for taking in nutrients as they provide better quality than food supplements do.
Despite these dangers, there are weight loss drugs that can work wonders specifically for you. You will have to consult with a physician to find out about the drugs. No one will know your physiology better than your health physician does.
