This small article will give you simple tips to keep in mind while designing a
website to make your site more meaningful for the search engines & humans. I have tried
to make it very brief and simple to understand.
Search Engine Optimization is way more in depth, this is a basic article to get you started and get an idea about what to keep in mind while designing a website.
Overall Website Tips:
- Have your website rich with text.
- Give importance to Grammar.
- Use relevant keywords which you wish to target in the search engines.
- Make use of Bold, Italics, Underline wherever required to make it more
meaningful. - Optimize image size used in the page.
- Have the page load time fast.
- Use proper internal linking, make sure your website is networked
properly with internal links. i.e. easy to navigate for humans and spiders. - Use meaningful keyword rich link anchor text.
- Page Naming is very important, don't name internal pages of your website
with page1.html, page2.html etc. Name them according to the content to make
them more meaningful and search engine friendly. - Check your website browser compatibility. Make sure its compatible with
most of the popular browsers. - Make your website resolution independent. Should be visible with most of
the standard screen resolutions. ( i.e. 800*600, 1024*768 etc). - Try to incorporate the main subject matter of the website page in the
first half of the page. For example if your website page is about a
particular product try to include the product name the product category etc,
on the top of the page content. - Try and think rationally, a website designed friendly for humans will
usually be friendly to the search engines. - If you are using animations in your site, make sure that there is enough
text on your site too. Text in the animations is usually not understood by
search engines. - Don't try to include too much in one web page. Make it clear, simple,
bold & neat. - Have a link back to your website homepage on all your website pages.
