Some people are so afraid of driving that they freeze when they have to sit on a driver's seat. And I am not talking about someone that has something against technology, but about someone that is simply afraid of doing something wrong or he is afraid that he could harm someone by driving.
In spite of all these, they take driving lessons or they continue driving. Try to realize how hard was for them to take their first lessons having this fear inside their minds.
I have an old friend that, as all of us he wanted to obtain a driving license, to have a car and drive it. He wanted to be able to run away whenever he was pleased to and of course, he wanted that freedom ticket, the license.
He had never tried to drive a car before taking driving lessons and this way he discovered he had a fear of driving, so the first lesson was a shock and he couldn't wait for it to end. Even now, he wonders what could have been the reason of that reaction and he regrets that his first driving lesson was such a disaster.
As you certainly expect, he failed the very first driving lesson because he wasn't able to drive the car, or to start the engine. He completely froze.
Since that day, he stopped any attempt of driving any car or trying to drive one for at least ten years. After ten years he decided to face that fear and went to an adult driving program.
He took the classes, obtained the drivers license and he now uses the car every day.
Sometimes, I think it was because he thought that driving is something too important and difficult to do and also because he had never tried to drive a car before.
